Tony Cottee tells West Ham United players how to get fans back on side after 6-0 Arsenal loss
Tony Cottee has told West Ham players how they can make it up to the fans against Nottingham Forest after their 6-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.
The Hammers were thumped at home last time out, with fans turning on David Moyes and the players and leaving the ground in their thousands before half-time.
With a huge game on the road against Forest coming this weekend, Cottee appeared on talkSPORT (16 February, 8:54) and told Alan Brazil what the players should do when they run out for the warm-up.
“Well I think first and foremost when those players run out, there has to be changes,” he said. “David Moyes cannot play the same team.
“When those players run out and behind the goal at the City Ground there will be 4000, 5000 West Ham fans. They should run over to them, look them in the eyes and say we’re going to make up for last week.
“There’s enough talent in this West Ham squad to go to Forest and win the game. Forest are inconsistent, we know that, but they can especially at home put in good performances. If West Ham aren’t on their game they will get beat four or five again.
“They can’t afford that to happen. One positive for the fans is that last season whenever they needed a result, and that was 3 or 4 times, they went out and got the result for themselves, the manager and the fans. So why can’t they do that again?”
West Ham fans are demanding change
Hammers fans have clearly had plenty of time to think about this ridiculous result, and it’s clear that Moyes has lost a large section of the fan base at this point.
There were already question marks about whether he should be at the club next season with his contract expiring this summer, and it’s clear that the club are having thoughts about it too.
But this result has summed up what a lot of fans feel, and that’s that Moyes has taken the team as far as he can and the squad needs improvement in the coming transfer window.

But the players are far more difficult to rid of in a short period of time, and with plenty of games remaining this season, the players need to find a way to get back on side with the fans – especially those who are travelling to away games.
They can start that by claiming a big away win to win points in the table and with fans and prove the manager right that the Arsenal result was just a blip.
