Tony Cascarino reveals what really close friend of David Moyes told him about West Ham before Everton
David Moyes will go down as one of the most successful managers West Ham have ever had.
Moyes won the Europa Conference League with West Ham in 2023, as well as securing back-to-back top seven finishes in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.
West Ham have had the likes of Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter in charge since his departure, but they have failed to replicate his achievements at the London Stadium.
Nuno Espirito Santo is under scrutiny as West Ham are embroiled in a relegation battle, which is precisely what Moyes wanted to avoid as he continues to flourish with Everton.
Tony Cascarino has delved more into the broken relationship between Moyes and West Ham, and it looks as though nothing could have been done to save it.
David Moyes couldn’t see a brighter future with West Ham
After leaving E20 in June 2024, Moyes returned to Everton at the start of 2025.
After overseeing a solid end to last season, he has begun the 2025-26 campaign brilliantly, with the Toffees sitting ninth in the Premier League table.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 4 January, Cascarino alludes to the fact that Moyes couldn’t have achieved much more with West Ham.
He said: “I’ve got a mutual friend who knows Moyes very, very well.
“He always said that Moyes knew it was time to leave West Ham, and he had taken them as far as he could.
“He then went to Everton and made it clear he didn’t want a relegation fight. And look where we are, West Ham are in one, and Everton aren’t.”
West Ham’s 3-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday was one of their worst performances in recent years, and they now look destined for relegation under Nuno.

West Ham would be well clear of relegation under David Moyes
Of course, this is completely hypothetical, but there is no way Moyes would have the Hammers performing as badly as they are.
Everton flirted with relegation for years before his return, but ever since Moyes walked through the door, they have been revitalised.
They have the opportunity to move as high as fifth in the table on Sunday, and it’s a stark contrast to where Nuno’s side currently are.

The Hammers haven’t played Championship football since 2011-2012, and they’ve enjoyed some memorable highs during those 14 years.
It must be painful for fans to see Moyes doing so well at a club that were once in the position that West Ham currently finds themselves in.
The reality is that the Hammers would be miles clear of the drop zone if he were still in charge.
