Tomas Soucek too cosy at West Ham United to be dropped

Journalist Paul Brown believes Tomas Soucek will keep his place in the West Ham United team for the match against Wolves.

The 27-year-old has been going through a rough patch and there have been some rumours that he might lose his place in the starting XI.

Brown, who has reported in the Daily Star, while talking to Givemesport, suggested that Soucek will be able to keep his place.

“He [Soucek] really needs to start producing,” he said. “Because they didn’t sign a major name in his position, I don’t think his position is too under threat now at West Ham. Maybe that’s a bit too cosy and safe for him, but he certainly needs to start performing.”

Important player

West Ham have had some impressive seasons over the last few years and one of the primary reasons for that has been the performance of their midfield, where Soucek along with Declan Rice has proved to be a real powerhouse.

However, that has not been the case this year as the duo have been unable to produce similar kinds of performances which have definitely impacted the overall functioning of the team.

Therefore, manager David Moyes will be hoping that Soucek can return to his very best and start contributing as he did over the past few seasons.

If he doesn’t then Flynn Downes should be brought in to put him on his toes and break up the cosiness that Brown mentions.

The 27-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2020 from Czech Republic club Slavia Prague in a deal worth £14.58 million.

Since then, the defensive midfielder has represented his current club in 115 matches across all competitions where he has managed to score 21 times and provided three assists in the process [Transfermarkt].
