Tomas Soucek told he could be finished at West Ham United after new Ruben Amorim update
West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has been told he could be finished at the London Stadium if Ruben Amorim is appointed, by Alex Barker.
The Hammers are reportedly in talks with the Portuguese manager over potentially replacing David Moyes at the end of the season [David Ornstein, 22 April] as the Scotsman looks set to leave East London at the end of his contract.
Amorim has enjoyed an excellent season with Sporting Lisbon and Atheltic journalist and European football expert Barker believes the current Irons squad would be well suited to the manager’s style.
Writing on X on Monday (22 April) he said: “Had a look at WHU and I think, first XI wise, probably decently well suited to Amorim. Would be looking at a new RWB, potentially a new LWB.
“But the CBs profile-wise work (Zouma + Mavropanos are tall and physical) and Alvarez is definitely an Amorim midfielder.”
One fan questioned whether Soucek would have to be sold if Amorim arrived at West Ham and Barker simply replied: “Si.”
Will Ruben Amorim join West Ham United amid new Liverpool manager speculation?
Soucek has been a regular feature of the Hammers starting XI throughout Moyes’ tenure at the London Stadium, but he is very much a system player and it seems unlikely he would be able to adapt to Amorim’s style in East London.
He has been an exceptional servant to the Hammers, but his technical ability is clearly limited when compared to the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Alvarez. Even if he does stay, it probably won’t be in a starting role.
Whether or not Amorim becomes the Irons’ new boss remains to be seen, but if he does decide to make the switch to the Premier League, he will likely be keen to put his own stamp on the playing squad to suit his style.
Hopefully, some clarity will emerge over the managerial position at the London Stadium sooner rather than later so that these sorts of transfer decisions can be made ahead of the summer transfer window.
