Todibo accused of spreading poor attitude at West Ham after recent unseen antics

West Ham thought they had pulled off a coup when they signed Jean-Clair Todibo last summer, but it has not been smooth sailing so far.

Todibo has impressed in flashes in a difficult first season at West Ham, with the Frenchman finding himself in and out of the team under Julen Lopetegui.

The 25-year-old was an unused substitute in West Ham’s defeat to Wolves, but has otherwise featured regularly under Graham Potter.

However, one incident from earlier this season has now been brought up, highlighting a potential attitude problem for Todibo.

Martin Allen slams Todibo attitude

Former West Ham midfielder Martin Allen has now slammed Todibo and has accused him of spreading a negative attitude around the squad.

“When I saw him warm up as a sub when our centre-back was injured at Southampton, my mind was made up,” Allen stated in response to a post on X.

“Poor attitude spreads through the core of your club. And there’s others too.”

The game in reference is West Ham’s 1-0 win at Southampton in December, in which Todibo started on the bench, but came on in the 19th minute to replace Max Kilman after he picked up an injury.

Todibo helped West Ham see out a clean sheet, but Lopetegui was dismissed from his role just a few weeks later.

Todibo needs more time to settle at West Ham

It is harsh to individually criticise Todibo from the outside looking in, given the difficulties he has faced since joining West Ham last summer.

In his first season in England, Todibo has struggled with injuries disrupting his progress, and also had a reported fall-out with Lopetegui.

A full pre-season over the summer and consistent game time under Potter from the start of next season will give West Ham fans a better idea of what Todibo is capable of in a more stable environment if he stays.

West Ham have also changed shape between a back four and five throughout the season, and adapting to different styles under two very different managers was never going to be an easy process for any centre-back.

Todibo impressed in 130 appearances for Nice, and deserves more time to justify the hype that came with his move to the London Stadium.
