Timeframe mooted for West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna’s return

West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna is making “decent progress” as he continues to work his way back to full fitness according to Claret & Hugh.

The 33-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Hammers 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the London Stadium earlier in the season.

Ogbonna is aiming to be back on the training pitch within the next month with members of the backroom staff hopeful the Italian could make a return before the end of the season.

For now, the defender is continuing to work on his upper body strength in the gym as he edges closer to a return.

Great news

It will do West Ham no harm at all having him back before the end of the season.

He might not make a massive impact, but it would be a massive boost for the player to be back playing as soon as possible.

Not only psychologically would it do him the world of good having been out for most of the season but of course, physically.

It means the former Juventus man can get a proper pre-season under his belt and hopefully hit the ground running next season.

It is a huge shame though, his injury and the timing of it. Ogbonna was arguably in the best form of his Irons career and he hasn’t got too many years left of that.

Centre-back is one of the positions that has notoriously needed strengthening this season therefore, the senior man might face new competition next season.

He will be eager to reclaim his spot at the heart of the Hammers’ defence as soon as possible.
