Tim Steidten needs work West Ham United transfer magic amid Liverpool Omar Marmoush development
West Ham United had a large overhaul of their squad during the summer transfer window.
The squad was bolstered in all areas with Max Kilman and Niclas Fullkrug among the marquee signings made to help bolster the Hammers’ ranks.
Germany striker Fullkrug hasn’t made as much of an impact as he would’ve liked to due to the injury he sustained while on international duty last month, while others have had to remain patient as they try to work their way in Julen Lopetegui’s thinking.
The Hammers have, thus far, been pretty underwhelming, even accounting for the fact they managed to get a 4-1 home win against Ipswich Town on Saturday (5 October).
One area that is still causing concern is striker, despite the arrival of Fulkrug. The club have three senior number nines at their disposal with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings also available to the boss..
On paper, this may seem like enough depth but the age of Antonio and Ings, coupled with inconsistent goal returns, means it is an area Lopetegui might still want to focus on in January.
Which is why it didn’t come as much of a surprise to see the Hammers linked with Bundesliga ace Omar Marmoush [TEAMtalk, 16 September].
Although these were just rumours at the time, the fact that Florian Plettenberg has now linked Liverpool with a potential move for the Egypt international (8 October) should set alarm bells ringing in the head of Tim Steidten.
West Ham United need to make a move for Omar Marmoush
Even at this stage of the campaign you can’t help but feel that some extra firepower is going to be needed, even when Fullkrug is back fit.
Marmoush has contributed to 15 goals across all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt in a brilliant start to the campaign and, although the German outfit wants to keep him within their ranks, Steidten should be looking to work his transfer magic.
The Hammers already missed out on Jhon Duran during the summer window and, with how the Colombia international has started the season, there’s no doubt Steidten will be kicking himself for not getting that deal over the line.
West Ham would likely want to avoid another similar situation again, so, if they’re serious about Marmoush, January could be the ideal time to strike.
