Tim Steidten and David Moyes in agreement as West Ham United close in on Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez
Tim Steidten and David Moyes have seen eye to eye on Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez with West Ham agreeing on personal terms, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports journalist reported on Saturday (5 August) that Steidten was the one who recommended the Mexico international to the Hammers boss.
Moyes then green signalled the deal and the two clubs are working on the transfer fee for the 25-year-old.
Plettenberg wrote on Twitter, “Edson Alvarez has decided to join West Ham. Steidten was pushing for him; Moyes has agreed! The 25 y/o is one of the desired targets to replace Rice.
“Verbal agreement is done. Talks about a contract until 2027 or 2028. West Ham & Ajax now in contact to find an agreement.”
Get it done
The club finally appear to be close to signing a replacement for Declan Rice and most of pre-season is already over.
West Ham have been notoriously slow in getting deals over the line in the past and if they can agree on a fee with Ajax it’ll be great.
They took their time and failed to get Carlos Borges over the line and cannot afford to do the same thing with Alvarez as well.

With the new season around the corner, they cannot afford to waste their time and need to work on multiple deals at the same time.
With Gianluca Scamacca also on his way out, a new striker is certainly the need of the hour after getting Alvarez over the line.
Hopefully, these deals get done sooner rather than later so that the Hammers can plan for the new season.
In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
