Thomas Skinner: PAI Capital bid £500m for West Ham, they mean serious business
West Ham-mad TV star and businessman Thomas Skinner has claimed he’s spoken to PAI Capital about their bid to buy the London club from David Sullivan and David Gold.
Last week, the Daily Mail reported that a group of investors, led by ex-QPR chief executive Philip Beard, had made a £400million bid to buy the Hammers.
However, it was reportedly rejected with Sullivan saying they failed to provide proof of funds and the offer was “derisory”.
In a video on his personal Twitter account, Skinner said: “Right, to all the West Ham fans out there, I’ve got some news that is, for our club, is different class.
“I know about the buyer at West Ham. PAI Capital, I know them personally, I speak to them all the time. They have put a bid on the table to buy West Ham and to buy the stadium so we’ve got our very own stadium.
“These guys have got serious money [and] serious investment to look after and build our club up so we can be the number one club in London.
“I know it for fact and I’m absolutely buzzing about this. It’s mega – it’s absolutely mega. I mean, we’ll have our own stadium again.
“West Ham will be the best club in the country. With PAI Capital behind us, owning us, looking after us, they’re going to take it to the next level and it’s what we need.
“We need all the fans to get behind this because there are so many rumours going about, I know it first-hand. I know it first-hand the deal has been put on the table to Sullivan and we need all the West Ham fans out there to get behind these boys.
“Trust me when I say this, I’m a lifelong West Ham fan, if they are with us, we are going to be a Champions League club, without a shadow of a doubt.
“Look at them, look up the company. Serious. This is mega for us. And it’s not rumours, this is fact, this is true, I’ve been on the phone and I’ve spoken to the boys there.
“They’re a great group of lads and it means the world to West Ham.”
Skinner signed off by saying: “The deal is on the table. Come on, Sullivan, for the fans of West Ham – sell.”
Skinner better be right because he’s exciting a lot of West Ham fans at the moment.
While a lot of what he’s said is probably just bigging up people he knows and conveying his own excitement, the crux of Skinner’s video is that PAI Capital have a lot of spending power and are serious about buying the Hammers.
We’ve had enough of GSB.
While we have returned to Europe with them in the boardroom, that is almost entirely down to David Moyes, his coaching team and the playing squad for their impressive performances last season.
Remember, this time last year we were almost being relegated to the Championship.
And so far this summer, we’re yet to see a new face arrive at the London Stadium despite winning European football and despite selling Sebastien Haller for big bucks in January and not replacing him.
Moyes’ squad isn’t one that can compete in Europe, domestic competitions and the Premier League – the strength in depth simply isn’t there.
Of course, when a change of ownership occurs, you always have to be wary because it can always be a case of ‘the better the devil you know than the one you don’t’.
But West Ham is a club that needs fresh impetus and fresh investment to take it to the next level and stay there.
We don’t want last season to be a one-off.
