Thomas Frank to West Ham United touted in ‘mad’ new verdict
Adam Crafton believes West Ham United, Tottenham and Newcastle United would each be “mad” not to consider Thomas Frank as their next manager.
Julen Lopetegui is facing a make-or-break clash with Wolves on Monday [9 December], with his position at the London Stadium under intense scrutiny.
Therefore, should Lopetegui be dismissed from his duties this week, The Athletic journalist Crafton shared his verdict via X [8 December] and believes Frank has to join the list of the names under consideration.
He said: “I don’t know if or the extent to which West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle are thinking about changes but if they’re not thinking about Thomas Frank they must be mad.”
West Ham United will have plenty of options to replace Julen Lopetegui
West Ham supporters will soon finally have clarity on the future of Lopetegui.
While claims have emerged the Spaniard has been mistreated throughout his tenure in East London, the die has already been cast with supporters chanting for his removal during the 3-1 loss against Leicester City.
Regardless of the result at the London Stadium, the Hammers are crying out for a regime change, and it feels like there is no way back for Lopetegui – if he is not sacked, he should consider resigning.
However, should the Irons need to find a new figurehead for the dressing room, David Sullivan will have options, but it is paramount that he learns from his mistakes and makes the right decision.
Max Allegri would be a dream appointment for West Ham, and the challenge entices him, but his £115,000-a-week wage demands could prove to be a significant stumbling block.
Frank would be the more realistic and cost-effective appointment; his efforts with Brentford are catching the eye, and the German could be tempted to move across the capital in search of a more rewarding challenge.
Nevertheless, the match against Wolves will have significant ramifications on the future of West Ham – the direction the side will take will be revealed after the final whistle on Monday evening.
