Thilo Kehrer will link up with West Ham United squad in coming days after World Cup heartbreak

Thilo Kehrer is expected to link up with the West Ham squad in the coming days after suffering heartbreak at the World Cup, as reported by Football.London.

Kehrer, 26, has become the only Hammers player out of six who will not be playing further in the World Cup after Germany failed to progress from their group.

The defender could feature against Fulham on 17 December and has over three weeks time to get ready for the Premier League clash against Arsenal on Boxing Day [26 December].

Germany won 4-2 against Costa Rice on Thursday night [1 December] but it wasn’t enough for them to qualify to the knockout rounds.

The 2014 winners have exited the competition at group stages for the second consecutive World Cup, and Kehrer, as a result, will return to the club shortly.

Kehrer played just 70 minutes for Germany in the World Cup, starting in the 1-1 draw with Spain.

The likes of Declan Rice, Nayef Aguerd and Lucas Paqueta have all booked their places into the round of 16, but Kehrer will return early.

He is unlikely to feature in Tuesday’s [6 December] friendly game against League One side Cambridge United but could return against Fulham.

Kehrer is set to play a major role at the back for the Hammers, with Kurt Zouma having gone under the knife to nurse his knee injury.

Despite Zouma’s injury, David Moyes still has the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Craig Dawson as other options at the back.
