‘They’ll finish…’ – Rio Ferdinand makes West Ham top four prediction
Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he expects West Ham to miss out on a top four place, but thinks they’ll finish above Arsenal, while speaking on his FIVE podcast.
The Hammers dropped more points in their hunt for a Champions League place at the weekend with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle, and now sit in 5th place four points behind Manchester United.
Ferdinand was discussing the top four race following the weekend results on his podcast and thinks that David Moyes’ side will miss out because of the lack of depth in their squad, but did make a positive prediction for them.

“All the teams going for fourth, bar West Ham, got positive results so it’s like right, that position is, you’ve got to perform now,” he said.
“Spurs won a game we didn’t expect them to win, then Arsenal obviously won and United won. I think it’s going to be out of them three to finish fourth.
“I think West Ham will put up a fight but probably will go a bit short just because of the depth in their squad. They’ll finish above Arsenal.”
Same story
It’s the same old story for West Ham’s chances of top-four compared to their peers in the mind of yet another pundit.
West Ham’s lack of depth is a known issue and is rearing its ugly head once again now after an initial bounce in their form following the short winter break.

Without making any additions during the January transfer window they have left themselves open to their squad stagnating and missing out on a huge opportunity.
So far they’ve been able to keep up for the most part, but even Wolves are involved in the race and they’re in much better shape than the Hammers right now.
All in all, you’d be hard-pressed to find a West Ham fan that expects to finish in the top four, but finishing above Arsenal wouldn’t necessarily be a bad season either. Especially if they’re supposedly still in the race for the Champions League places.
