‘The Moose’ rages at latest West Ham transfer rumour

West Ham United seem to get linked, every single window, with players of both the highest and the lowest order. In truth, it can be infuriating.

However, arguably the most frustrating rumour of all emerged late on Wednesday night when French publication L’Equipe claimed that the Hammers are interested in re-signing former winger Dimitri Payet from Marseille.

This is the same Payet who left the London Stadium under a cloud in 2017 to return to the Ligue 1 club after an outstanding stint in claret and blue.

He’s certainly not remembered fondly in east London, despite his brilliance. That was made evident by talkSPORT commentator and West Ham fan Ian ‘The Moose’ Abrahams’ rant on the subject on Thursday.

West Ham

“It’s like someone who’s cheated on your wife and then inviting them back in when you’ve got back with your wife!,” he said on talkSPORT.

“He decided that he didn’t want to play for West Ham – he basically went on strike. Are you really telling me that there isn’t another footballer on the planet who can help get West Ham out of trouble?”

Is Abrahams right on this one?

You hate to say it, because Abrahams is almost as unpopular with Hammers fans as Payet, but he probably is.

There’s simply no need to go and get the Frenchman at this stage. He’s 32 years of age and treated the club absolutely disgracefully when he was here before.

As Abrahams says, there must be other players out there who the club could sign? Why does it have to be Payet? He shouldn’t be rewarded for how he treated the Irons with a move back to the London Stadium, that’s for sure.

In other West Ham news, manager David Moyes has delivered an update on the club’s January transfer dealings.
