‘The best’ – Jamie Carragher makes bold claim about West Ham ace

West Ham have “the best goalkeeper outside of the top six” in Lukasz Fabianski, according to Jamie Carragher.

The Polish stopper had to be taken off in the first half of West Ham’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United, with the Blades’ winner coming after a catastrophically misplaced pass from David Martin.

But prior to his substitution, Carragher was eager to sing his praises.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of the match (Sky Sports Main Event, January 10th, 20.15), the pundit said: “When you look at Fabianski, they have probably the best goalkeeper outside of the top six.”

How bad could Fabianski’s injury be for West Ham?

At this stage, we have no real details on the injury, and therefore, king any kind of supposition in how long he may be out would be remiss.

What you would say, however, is that we know exactly how this panned out last time the big Pole was sidelined.

That time, it was Roberto who was called on to deputise by the Hammers, and things couldn’t really have gone much worse.

In his eight Premier League matches, he conceded 17 goals and made two errors leading directly to goals, as well as scoring an own goal, as per the league themselves. It’s no coincidence that the Hammers slipped into the relegation battle they are now facing during that spell.

This time, David Martin will be called upon to deputise, but on the basis of Friday’s howler, it could be equally disastrous for the Irons.
