The Athletic: Marc Guehi set to undergo Crystal Palace medical today

Chelsea defender and West Ham target Marc Guehi is set to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace later on Thursday, per The Athletic.

The Hammers were previously keen on signing the Chelsea youngster who spent last season out on loan at Derby County. [The Athletic]

However, it seems Patrick Vieira’s London side have won the race to secure his services.

They are understood to have shelled out a fee between £15million and £20million for the 21-year-old centre-back as they were primarily looking for a young defender with a high ceiling this summer.

Not convinced by him

It’s a good thing we didn’t continue pursuing the player as he has been signed for a steep fee for someone with no regular first-team experience in a top five European league.

He may have a high ceiling, but we’re not sure whether he would be an upgrade right now on Craig Dawson and Issa Diop.

Maybe in a few years, he turns out to be a world beater, but the need of an hour is a centre-back who helps organise this team and eliminates the needless goals we’ve conceded at crucial intervals during games.

West Ham

Thus far, we’ve had a pretty quiet summer, but that could be attributed to the EUROs and we’re expecting things to pick up from here-on-in.

Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is an experienced custodian who would fit right in to our price range and instantly strengthen our playing eleven.

According to Calciomercato, the Italian side are asking for a fee in the region of £13million and £17million to part ways with the Serbian defender.

However, Juventus are also reportedly interested in him, so signing him isn’t as straightforward as it seems. We trust David Moyes to do the right thing but he needs to act quickly as the window is not going to stay open forever.
