‘That’s bad news’ – Alan Pardew shares his big West Ham fear, it’s to do with supporters

West Ham United are close to a crisis point after their poor start to the season.

West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night, a result that has dropped the Hammers into the relegation zone, with Graham Potter’s tactics under scrutiny.

The pressure has been ramped up on Potter after yet another heavy defeat, as his side have now conceded eight goals in two home games after August’s 5-1 hammering at home to Chelsea.

Relegation is a genuine possibility this season with the teams coming from the Championship looking strong, and Alan Pardew has shared his thoughts on what he believes is a major problem.

Alan Pardew comments on London Stadium atmosphere

West Ham‘s move to the London Stadium from Upton Park was met with considerable controversy, with fans believing the move was unnecessary.

Despite some big European nights at the London Stadium, the ground has been mocked by rival fans for the lack of atmosphere, mainly due to the distance from the pitch.

The stands and the pitch are separated by a running track which is covered over during the season, and that distance means creating any consistent atmosphere is difficult.

Pardew has said that the performances drop when the crowd can’t make an atmosphere, and that results won’t improve until the Hammers fans find a way to get behind the team properly.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday night, Pardew said: “There can’t be anything worse in that stadium than it being flat, because the stadium doesn’t give you any energy. You kind of have to give the stadium energy.

“With the Boleyn, the stadium kind of worked with the fans; it was like they inspired each other.

“This stadium doesn’t inspire anyone, so the fans, when it’s flat it’s like, oof, that’s bad news.”

Everything at West Ham is toxic right now

At most clubs in the Premier League, there is some form of hope that they can achieve a successful season, even with the quality of opposition growing each season.

Right now, there is no hope at West Ham, who have been suffocated by years of bad decision-making both in the boardroom and on the pitch.

West Ham’s home record in 2025 has been horrendous

The move from Upton Park to Stratford has not worked out as planned, and now the Hammers fans are stuck at a stadium they hate, and a team that is underperforming.

Pardew may believe that the fans need to contribute more to the atmosphere, but the state of affairs on and off the pitch means there’s nothing to shout about.
