Teddy Sheringham shares Arsenal transfer suggestion for West Ham United star Declan Rice

Teddy Sheringham believes West Ham midfielder Declan Rice would “definitely” make Arsenal a better team.

Rice has been linked with a summer exit from the Hammers, with Arsenal reportedly very interested in his signature [Fabrizio Romano].

And Sheringham, who spent three years at West Ham, says that the current skipper of the club would “walk into any team,” including the Premier League leaders.

“When you’re talking about top players, you put them up against other top players,” Sheringham said live on talkSPORT. “The complete midfield player would be able to defend, tackle, run forward, but score goals as well.

“Wherever he goes he’s going to make that team a better team. Maybe Casemiro is in that role at Manchester United, so perhaps they don’t need him but he would definitely make Arsenal a better team.

“I don’t like to say it because they’re already good enough this season and I don’t want to see Declan go there because they’re already good enough, but he could walk into any team for me.”

Summer exit on the cards

Rice’s stock continues to rise, even more so after the West Ham midfielder netted in England’s Euro 2024 qualifying victory over Italy on Thursday (23 March).

The midfielder has enjoyed another fine individual campaign, with his feats standing out in particular given his club’s struggles this season.

He has given his all for the Hammers in recent times, but like many others before him, could seek out a move to a club towards the top end of the table in order to regularly fight for silverware.

Rice would undoubtedly improve any team in England, with a move to the Gunners potentially seeing him acting as a long-term replacement for current defensive midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international has formed a strong partnership in that position with Thomas Partey, but at 30 years old, Xhaka may be on the way out soon enough under Mikel Arteta.

Rice is just 24, and will have many years to shine in an Arsenal shirt if that is where he will end up come next season.
