Tammy Abraham pursuit could cost West Ham top-seven berth

West Ham United’s failed pursuit of Tammy Abraham and the time spent behind it could cost the club a top-seven berth.

The 24-year-old may be on his way out of Chelsea, but he did not want to move to the London Stadium, claims ExWHUemployee.

According to Sky Sports, the England international is on the cusp of an exit as Roma have agreed a £34milion fee with Chelsea to sign him.

Via his personal Twitter account, he wrote, “I said on podcast how frustrating I find it.

“Apparently we think his value is too high and his wages so we won’t pay it. Ridiculously short sighted in my opinion.

“And I was told he doesn’t want to come as well.”

Abraham is a very good forward who would’ve bolstered our attack and his fitness record is also impeccable meaning he wouldn’t be out on the sidelines for a considerable period of time like Michail Antonio.

But if the player’s stance was clear after other clubs started showing a keen interest in him, then why did we persist with our quest to sign the player?

This leads us to begin next season without a recognised number nine, and given how the teams around us have strengthened, we’re unlikely to finish in the European places again.

Leicester, Tottenham and Arsenal have all addressed their areas of weakness and the likes of Aston Villa and Leeds United are also looking to be in better shape than they were last season.

From the outset, we shouldn’t have pursued this transfer as the player himself didn’t appear that keen on moving to the London Stadium.

This was a blunder that wasted the time and efforts of a lot of people at the club including David Moyes.

He should’ve been informed well in advance that this was not going to happen so he could actively pursue a move for someone else.

Now, we’re probably going to have to settle for somebody like Divock Origi [ExWHUemployee], who may be decent in bits and pieces, but is unlikely to be the striker to take us to that next level.

These kinds of systemic failures have been prevalent for years and are one of the main reasons why we don’t take that step up to compete with the big clubs.
