TalkSPORT host wants Liverpool to sign West Ham United ace Declan Rice as £100m verdict shared
Ade Oladipo has suggested Declan Rice isn’t a £100million player as the West Ham captain’s future yet again comes under the spotlight.
The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano has revealed (via Twitter, 1 December) that there’s now an “expectation” for Rice to leave the club in 2023, with the England international making his intentions clear in a recent press conference (Football Daily, 1 December).
TalkSPORT host Oladipo would love to see Rice at Liverpool but agreed with comments from his colleague Simon Jordan, who has been “underwhelmed” by the 23-year-old.
“Rice is a very good footballer and I’d certainly have him at Liverpool..but Simons right on this one,” said Oladipo (via Twitter, 1 December).
“I don’t see a £100m player. Or has the market changed so much that this is what £100m gets you?”
Time will tell
The debate surrounding Rice’s value will continue throughout January and summer transfer window. However, it doesn’t matter what value other teams place on the England international. For West Ham he is worth upwards of £100million, that’s how important he is to David Moyes’ team.
His ability to dominate the midfield is absolutely essential for the Hammers and will be impossible to replace if and when he leaves the London Stadium. After Rice’s latest comments, it’s abundantly clear that he wants out of West Ham at some point in 2023.
It’s up to the board to set a price and stick by that number until a suitable bid comes in for the midfielder. Chelsea does look like the most probable destination with the 23-year-old having close ties to Stamford Bridge, having been there as a youngster.
The West London club will likely be competing in the Champions League and that will be a huge draw for the midfielder. Rice has played in huge games for England and deserves the chance to test himself at the highest level of club football.
