Stuart Pearce sends message to West Ham United owners in new Julen Lopetegui sack verdict
Stuart Pearce has told the West Ham ownership to give Julen Lopetegui time after backing him in the summer transfer market.
The Spaniard has come under heavy fire since the Premier League kicked off, with the Hammers only managing one win from their first five matches of the season.
While Lopetegui’s men are sitting in fourteenth, fresh from a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday 21 September, the new manager has been backed to prove himself despite the criticism [HITC].
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (24 September, 6:37am), Pearce said: “The owners have done brilliantly well. They’ve backed him in the transfer market. A lot of the signings who came through the door were really good.
“There’s a little bit of criticism suggesting they’re not doing so well but they need to be given time. It’s early in the season, with a tough game against Liverpool. I’d expect Lopetegui to make a few changes. He’s just got to be given time after being backed.”
West Ham United to back Julen Lopetegui after rough start
Lopetegui’s appointment was not greeted with the warmest of welcomes, and the fans will feel that has been justified after the tough start to the new season.
The Hammers are just three points above the dreaded relegation zone after five matches, though they have played Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea in that time.
After the amount of investment during the summer transfer window from the owners, Lopetegui is unlikely to be going anywhere fast, and he just needs the backing to turn things around.

With 33 more matches of the league campaign to go and few other competitions to think about, he must get a hold of things before the criticism and calls for his head spiral out of control.
Right now, some fans will suggest the grass is always greener after David Moyes was driven out of the London Stadium, but it is far too soon to judge Lopetegui’s time in charge.
