Stuart Pearce pleased with West Ham summer transfer business

West Ham first-team coach Stuart Pearce has admitted that he is pleased with the signings his side made during the summer transfer window.

The Hammers brought in French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, centre-back Kurt Zouma from Chelsea, Croatian attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow and Czech Republic defensive midfielder Alex Kral on loan from Spartak Moscow.

David Moyes’ side left it late to get most of their deals done, with the final three additions arriving in the last week of the window.

Nevertheless, Pearce is happy with the signings, telling talkSPORT they had to be patient to get them done.

“We’re enjoying our football. It’s a good squad situation, and a good togetherness at the football club,” the Irons senior man said (as shown on talkSPORT’s official Twitter account on Sunday afternoon).

“Dave has done pretty well in the transfer market. Brought four players in, in the back end of the window.

“We had to be very patient, you know the new players can come in, give us a bit more depth within the squad that can get better and better, so we’re enjoying our football.”

Decent additions

The striking department was the only place the Hammers could not strengthen in the summer, but Moyes can always call upon a couple of his attackers like Jarrod Bowen and Andriy Yarmolenko should Michail Antonio become unavailable for whatsoever reason during the course of the campaign.

West Ham now boast of quality depth in the goalkeeping department and at centre-back, while the defensive and attacking midfields have enough options to last the whole campaign across the four competitions they are challenging in.

Fans could not have asked for more as Moyes is satisfied with his current squad, and he will fancy his side’s chances of impressing in the Europa League and the Premier League again after last term’s sixth-placed finish.

Things could change when the winter transfer window opens in January, but for now, the London Stadium have a decent squad capable of seeing them through till mid-season.
