Stuart Pearce: Declan Rice loves driving West Ham forward
West Ham coach Stuart Pearce did not guarantee that Declan Rice will be at the club for the long haul.
The Telegraph reported that the midfielder had rejected two contract extensions at West Ham, which put his suitors on high alert.
However, it’s understood that with four years left on his contract, he was unhappy with the financials behind the deal and could put pen to paper to a deal he feels matches his expectations.
On talkSPORT Euro Drive on Thursday, Pearce said, “He’s an absolute dream to work with, always got a smile on his face – a little bit daft – but no brilliant to work with, great kid.”
“We think there’s more and more development in him and the beauty of Dec is we feel he’s got the ability to improve as well.
“Wherever he goes and plays his football in the future, that’s the way things are in the modern day game but at this moment in time I think he loves driving West Ham forward I really do.
“As long as he’s enjoying his football and is coming into work with a smile on his face, I think that’s brilliant for club and country.”
Hope he stays
There’s no surprise that there’s a growing interest in his services, but the club are confident that he will stay. It’s unlikely in today’s market that anyone will pay £100million for him.

He’s also got four years left on his deal so most of the bargaining power is in the club’s hands and they’re not going to let go of his services without getting heavily compensated.
Either way, it will be good news for us, but we’re hoping that he stays and is a part of short-term success.
His presence in the dressing room is infectious and the fans adore him. He’s also a manager’s dream and the way Pearce speaks about it, he seems he likeable individual willing to go the extra mile to get better,
He ticks all the boxes for being a West Ham legend, and while we know it is going to get harder to keep him in the future, but if we start winning things soon he could be tempted to stay on.
