Steve Bruce shares what he’s hearing about Tottenham is reminiscent of West Ham
Steve Bruce has compared Tottenham fans’ complaints about their style of play to that of West Ham’s.
Spurs picked up another poor result on Saturday as they were defeated by Chelsea 1-0.
While there were many concerns that emerged from the match, Thomas Frank’s side’s awful attacking threat was rightly highlighted.
Now, with David Moyes previously being criticised at West Ham for his style of play, similarities have now been made by Steve Bruce.

Steve Bruce: ‘Spurs way’ is a bit like the ‘West Ham way’
In recent years, the style that West Ham play in the Premier League has been a hot topic.
After Moyes left the London Stadium, numerous managers with prestigious CVs have come in to solve this issue.
Julen Lopetegui, once of Real Madrid and Spain, was an instant failure, while Graham Potter’s infamous passing game never took off.
Now, West Ham are back with another defensive-minded manager in Nuno Espirito Santo as they look to stay in the Premier League.
- West Ham fans have often wanted a more positive style of play on show
 - However, many recent appointments have not worked
 - Now, Nuno has been brought in to save West Ham’s season

Reflecting on the weekend’s results on talkSPORT on 3 November, when asked if Spurs were heading towards another identity crisis, Bruce insisted the situation was comparable to West Ham.
In a section of his interview, he said: “All throughout my career, I have heard about the ‘Spurs way’, it’s a bit like the ‘West Ham way’.
“They imagine it’s this attacking football that everyone loves to see, and of course every everyone wants to see it, and they have got to play a certain way.
“At the end of the day, Spurs on Saturday in particular didn’t play very well. You can look at tactics, but the top and bottom of it is that it was a really tepid derby, Spurs didn’t really lay a glove on them, and created very little.”

Will Nuno Espirito Santo be another short-term appointment at West Ham?
Given the style of play demands at West Ham from fans, it is unlikely that the Hammers are happy with Nuno’s philosophy.
However, given their current predicament, the former Nottingham Forest manager is likely their best chance to get out of their current mess.
Yet, whether he succeeds or fails to keep the Hammers in the top-flight, it will be interesting to see how long he lasts at the London Stadium.
Surely, if fans want a more attacking-minded manager, Nuno will never last at the East London club long-term.
His matches already this season have seen the Hammers have little possession as they battle for every point.
However, it remains to be seen if fans will ever find a progressive manager who is able to be a success at the London Stadium.
