Steve Banyard gushes over Pablo Fornals’ first ever Spain goal

West Ham attacker Pablo Fornals found the back of the net on his first start for Spain in their World Cup qualifier against Kosovo on Wednesday.

Steve Banyard, who was on commentary for the world feed, was in awe of the way the Hammers forward slammed the ball into the back of the net.

The 25-year-old took the ball in his stride, turned to give himself an eye at goal and hit it right into the goal with his weaker left foot.

Banyard, who commentates on Spain’s games for Sky Sports, said, “Fornals on the turn… Great goal.

“First start for Fornals, first goal for Fornals. A fantastic finish from Fornals. Didn’t he take it well?

“He’s been irrepressible for West Ham. Here he just rolls away from his man and unleashes a bullet at Arijanet Muric. Deft, delicate and deadly.”

Fine player

Fornals has taken a while to get used to life in the Premier League, but in the last few months, has been sensational for the Hammers.

He’s rated highly by David Moyes and the hierarchy at the London Stadium, and Wednesday’s performance proves why.

That’s why he was handed a start in a Spanish team that’s almost impossible to break into.

The fact that it was his first start for them tells you just how competitive and talented the Spanish contingent is.

That said, he proved his worth and rewarded Luis Enrique for the faith he’s shown in the Hammers attacker.

Hopefully, this is not the last one he scores for his country and we’re hoping that he puts in similar performances for his club as well.
