Steidten and Kilman revelation emerges from West Ham after £40m deal

Tim Steidten believes that West Ham paid over the odds to sign Max Kilman from Wolves while claiming the decision made on Nayef Aguerd was the wrong one, according to The New York Times

The news outlet reported (5 February) that Steidten has questioned two transfers made at West Ham, with the deal to sign Kilman [Fabrizio Romano] occurring as a result of a fee deemed “too high”.

Steidten, who has since departed the London Stadium, has also questioned the decision to loan Aguerd out with it claimed that he wanted to keep the Moroccan while Julen Loeptegui didn’t.

Sources from Lopetegui’s side have denied those events.

Max Kilman has been a net success for West Ham

While the Hammers have certainly made a whole host of failed signings over the years, the deal to bring Kilman to the London Stadium cannot be painted with the same brush.

Kilman has been a consistent performer for the Irons, under both Graham Potter and Lopetegui, making Steidten’s claims seem somewhat odd.

Out of all the signings Steidten could have highlighted as a mistake, many of which for fees similar to Kilman, it seems a very strange one to pick out.

He has showcased the fact he has a mistake in him, but for the large part, he has more than proven his worth, especially when considering the ever-growing inflation in the English market.

Kilman will undoubtedly go on to have a successful career with the Hammers and with Potter at the helm, his performances will only improve as time goes on with plenty of time on his side to better his game.
