Stan Collymore: West Ham United could be next destination for Thomas Tuchel

Stan Collymore has suggested that Premier League clubs like West Ham and Aston Villa could be the “next destination” for Thomas Tuchel.

The football pundit wrote in his column for The Sunday People (11 September, page 60), that Tuchel, who was sacked by Chelsea last week, can’t hang around for too long hoping that some big clubs will take him.

Collymore suggests that the 49-year-old, who guided the Blues to Champions League triumph, could soon return to management. He adds that Chelsea have panicked here and made the call after Arsenal and Manchester United made a solid start.

“He’s obviously somewhere in between either end of that spectrum – and that’s why I don’t see him automatically getting one of the big European jobs anytime soon,” wrote Collymore for The Sunday People.

“Maybe in Italy, a Juventus or one of the Milan clubs might be looking to make a change during the World Cup and they will be interested.

“But he can’t hang around too long for fear of becoming yesterday’s man and I wonder if his most likely destination will be one of our B+ clubs, such as Newcastle, West Ham or Aston Villa. Eddie Howe, David Moyes and Steven Gerrard could well be the ones looking over their shoulders and their clubs could afford to pay Tuchel £8m-£10m a year.”

Moyes not going anywhere

Tuchel is a quality manager and he would be a good fit for the Hammers if he wants to join.

Having said that, David Moyes is doing a terrific job at the club, and he is going nowhere.

When he took charge of West Ham, the club had no identity and they were facing the prospect of relegation.

He has made a strong force in the Premier League, and in the past two seasons, they narrowly missed out on the top four.

The club have shown great ambition in the transfer market this season by signing some quality players like Gianluca Scammaca, Thilo Kehrer, Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd.

The Hammers have made a stuttering start to the season, but they have shown signs of progress in recent weeks. When the new players will get to know each other better, and adjust to the system, the results will follow.

Tuchel would be an attractive name for any Premier League club, including West Ham, but the Hammers are unlikely to break their stability.
