Stan Collymore praises ‘Incredible’ David Moyes after West Ham United Europa League win v Backa Topola
Stan Collymore has labelled David Moyes’ work this season at West Ham as “incredible” after they opened their Europa League campaign with a win.
The Hammers found themselves 1-0 down to Serbian outfit Backa Topola but goals from Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek saw them come back to win 3-1 and earn all three points.
But after Collymore watched Brighton and Aston Villa get beaten in their European games, he wrote in his CaughtOffside column (22 September) giving West Ham credit for their victory.

“The final word from me this week is on Aston Villa and Brighton; both of whom kicked off their European campaigns with disappointing defeats on Thursday night,” he wrote.
“Credit to West Ham by the way, who did win. David Moyes is doing some incredible work through the early stages of the season.”

Last year it’s fair to say that winning the Europa Conference League saved Moyes’ job at West Ham, and there were plenty of fans who were still willing to see him go even after that.
But even the biggest Moyes hater will admit that what he has done so far this season is excellent and he deserves plenty of credit.

The new signings have all come into the side and performed immediately when called upon, and the absence of Declan Rice has been felt minimally with our only defeat coming against Manchester City.
We’re playing an exciting brand of football which is getting the best out of our best players, something he was criticised for regularly last season and it seems as though we have turned a corner under him.
He deserves the credit and it’s nice to see him getting it from the mainstream media and big-name pundits rather than just West Ham fans who are happy with how things are going for once.
