Stan Collymore explodes at West Ham United amid ‘Absolute Scandal’ this week

Stan Collymore has labelled West Ham among other clubs as “utter disgraces” after they voted against payments towards the EFL this week.

Ten clubs voted against making an offer to give the Football League a portion of cash, including the Hammers, which has left a sour taste in the mouth of the former Premier League striker.

And writing in his Caught Offside column (15 March), Collymore called it an “absolute scandal” while calling for an independent regulator to be installed as soon as possible.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, West Ham, Wolves, Crystal Palace… You are all total and utter disgraces!” he wrote.

“I just think it’s an absolute scandal that these clubs have basically given the middle finger to the teams who are where they were, and in the cases of Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Forest, not so long ago too.

“Have they forgotten where they came from? — The English pyramid is what makes this country’s football the best in the world. We should be proud of it, but instead, it seems now the Premier League view the EFL as a business competitor, and that’s wrong because every player, every coach and every manager would not be where they are now had it not been for grassroots football.

“The sooner an independent regulator comes in and ensures all Premier League clubs give 10 per cent of TV revenue to the EFL, the better.”

Stan Collymore furious with West Ham United

West Ham have been lumbered in a group with half the Premier League by Collymore about this situation, but there is clearly a reason why these clubs aren’t willing to partake in this deal.

What that reason is isn’t clear to those not privy to the information behind the scenes, but there is no reason for these clubs to go against it just because.

Collymore is clearly looking to earn some fans with this take, but he doesn’t have all the information and has jumped to conclusions instead.

Ultimately West Ham have to do what is best for them right now. Obviously their position could change if they were less successful or fell into the Championship, but they need to vote with the current circumstances.

It seems inevitable that a deal that suits everyone will eventually be agreed but considering half the league was unhappy with whatever was proposed it doesn’t seem that crazy.
