Sky Sports reporter slams Thilo Kehrer after Leeds ‘gifts’ in draw v West Ham United

Sky Sports reporter Ron Walker has slammed Thilo Kehrer after the West Ham United defender gave Leeds “two gifts” in the Hammers’ 2-2 draw at Elland Road.

The German endured a tough night up against Brenden Aaronson and was guilty of giving the ball away on a number of occasions, particularly in the first half.

Walker was less than impressed with the 26-year-old’s attempt to shepherd a ball out for a goal kick, only for Luke Ayling to eventually cross the ball in for the home side.

“It’s not been Kehrer’s finest night so far. He’s got to have more awareness of what’s going on around him, trying to shepherd the ball out and totally missing Ayling’s presence,” said the Sky Sports reporter (Sky Sports blog, 20:08, 4 January).

Learn from it

Kehrer will certainly learn from his mistakes at Elland Road in what was a white-hot contest between the two relegation rivals. On the face of it, a point is not a bad result for David Moyes’ men to ensure the Yorkshire side remain within touching distance.

However, considering they held a second-half lead, there will be a tinge of disappointment at the failure to hold onto the lead. It’s good to see the likes of Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta start to come to life in a West Ham shirt, with both impressing in the stalemate.

West Ham

The point will almost certainly buy Moyes some more time, but it’s absolutely essential the West Ham boss capitalises with positive results against Wolves and Everton in the Hammers’ next Premier League fixtures. Anything less than seven points from these three matches will be viewed as a failure by the London Stadium faithful.

It’s not the result fans were after, but it’s a start and the Irons have to use it to propel them further up the Premier League table.
