Sky Sports News drops new West Ham United manager update live during loss v Chelsea
Julen Lopetegui’s “number one target” is to return to the Premier League amid links with West Ham United, according to Sky Sports News.
Sky presenter Ed Draper reported live on air on Sunday (5 May, 14:30), as the Hammers slipped to a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, that the former Wolves boss is “excited” by the prospect of succeeding Moyes at the London Stadium.
Lopetegui has emerged as the front-runner to replace the Scotsman when his contract expires at the end of the season, but no official decision has yet been made and no confirmation is expected before the end of the season.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Draper said: “Some breaking managerial news for you. Sky Sports News understands Julen Lopetegui’s number one priority is to return to the Premier League.
“We also understand that he is excited by the prospect of taking over at West Ham if David Moyes does leave at the end of the season.”
Will West Ham United sack David Moyes and appoint Julen Lopetegui after Chelsea loss?
It has been clear for some time that Moyes’ tenure in East London is coming to an end and if it wasn’t obvious enough, the manner of the Hammers’ defeat to Chelsea on Sunday should have been the final nail in the coffin.
West Ham have hit their ceiling under the Scotsman and while he deserves credit for his work with the Irons, the time has come for a change in the dugout and it would be best for all parties if he were to move on this summer.

However, it does seem disrespectful that this update would emerge while a game is being played. It is clear that those in charge at the London Stadium have completely given up on Moyes while he is still working.
He deserves to be given more respect and it doesn’t seem right that all of this is being done behind his back. Hopefully, an official announcement will emerge sooner rather than later to put this farce to an end.
In other West Ham news, reports suggest that David Sullivan has been “won over” by talks with Lopetegui in recent weeks
