Sky Sports journalist: West Ham loan-to-buy bid for defender rejected
West Ham United have had a bid rejected by New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long, according to journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
The Sky Sports reporter has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Hammers put in a loan-to-buy offer for the American enforcer, but were quickly knocked back by the MLS club.
According to Solhekol, the Irons offered a $500,000 (£382,000) loan fee, with a $4.5million obligation to buy (£3.4million) at the end of the season.
The American international has been a long-term target for the Premier League side but has struggled to secure a move to England because of the work-permit process.
Long has previously bemoaned the process with the Hammers struggling to secure the permit with the Home Office to bring him to the London Stadium.
David Moyes will be looking to add some strength to his defence in the final week of the transfer window, with their backline struggling in recent weeks.
The 1-0 defeat against West Brom in the FA Cup could have been the icing on the cake, with his side frozen as Conor Townsend struck the ball home from the edge of the box.
