Sky Sports journalist shares West Ham news on David Moyes exit possibility live on air

Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill delivered an update on David Moyes’ position at West Ham United, amid speculation on the possibility of a summer exit.

Moyes is preparing his side for the showpiece Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina on 07 June, but beyond that, his future is unclear.

Cotterill stated that up to now, West Ham chiefs have had no plans to relieve the Scotsman of his duties after they kept faith in him during a period of pressure earlier in the season.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [02 June, 8.24am], Cotterill delivered the following update.

“My understanding is that despite all the rumours to the contrary, the club were never looking to replace David Moyes,” he said.

“Names were linked with the job, but he has a year left on his contract.

“If he does lift the Europa Conference League trophy, I would have thought he will find it hard to leave the club, although never rule anything out.”

Defining

Whilst the speculation on Moyes’ future continues, it is impossible to take the focus away from the upcoming European showpiece final in Prague.

The Hammers are on the verge of lifting their first major trophy since 1980 and if that happens, Moyes would become the first British manager to savour Euro elation since Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2008 Champions League success.

After the final, win or lose, everything else is back in play.

A decision may have been made already but it will be difficult for the club to part ways with their boss if he wants to stay, especially with the expected loss of Declan Rice.

The club needs to ensure that continuity is evident, even if they choose to go in a different direction for the new campaign but they stand to lose a lot. Too much change, too soon, can be a negative force.

West Ham are thriving just now and much of that is down to Moyes.
