Sky Sports drop update on Lucas Paqueta amid West Ham United controversy
West Ham ace Lucas Paqueta has joined up with Brazil’s Copa America squad, according to Sky Sports News.
The broadcaster reported in their online transfer centre (8:01 am, 31 May) that Brazil manager Dorival Junior has ignored calls for Paqueta to be dropped from the squad.
The West Ham midfielder was recently charged by the FA “for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market”.
It is claimed that the 26-year-old got himself deliberately booked in four Premier League matches.
Paqueta has denied the charges.
Business as usual for Brazil and West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta
Paqueta will be delighted that he still has the opportunity to feature for his nation at the Copa America.
The playmaker could be hit with an incredibly serious punishment and this could potentially be the last major tournament he features in for Brazil.
If it is, he will be hoping to go out in style.
While the charges against him are big, it is important to remember that he is innocent until proven guilty.
Therefore, Junior has made the right call to include Paqueta in his Brazil squad.
The midfielder has earned the right to feature for his country through his performances this season.
Until he is either found guilty, or his name is cleared, he should be treated just as any other player would be.

However, if he is found guilty down the line, then the appropriate punishment should be applied.
The biggest concern will be the player’s mental well-being, and Junior must ensure Paqueta is ready to play this summer.
In other West Ham news, one player is set to leave after 13 years with the club.
