Simon Jordan staggered at Julen Lopetegui to West Ham United update shared by Alex Crook

Simon Jordan was surprised to hear Julen Lopetegui has supposedly held talks over becoming the next West Ham manager.

Alex Crook reported on talkSPORT on Thursday [25 April, 11:28am] that talks have already taken place between United and out-of-work Lopetegui.

The Spaniard left Wolves at the start of the season due to concerns over the quality of the squad, but Gary O’Neil has proved him wrong.

When told of the news regarding Lopetegui being in the frame to replace David Moyes, Jordan replied: “They deserve one another [West Ham and Lopetegui].

“Give me a break. Have you heard some of the tripe that comes out of his mouth?”

Why did Julen Lopetegui leave Wolves?

Jordan’s “tripe” remark is seemingly regarding what Lopetegui said when leaving Wolves eight months ago in a surprise departure.

Lopetegui did well at Molineux last season, but he decided to depart Molineux three days before the start of the Premier League season.

That was due to the fact he was not backed in the way he hoped to be in the summer transfer window, which was still open at that stage.

O’Neil has had a very good season with Wolves, albeit results have gone downhill of late, which has made Lopetegui look silly.

However, it must also be remembered that the 57-year-old is a very highly rated coach who previously won the Europa League with Sevilla.

Factor in that he has Real Madrid and Spain on his CV and Lopetegui’s name should not be shot down in the way it has by some.

Not too dissimilar to Unai Emery at Aston Villa, Lopetegui could be a smart option that helps propel United to the next level.

In other West Ham news, Vincent Kompany’s name has been mentioned with regards to the Hammers’ job.
