Simon Jordan shares David Moyes sack verdict at West Ham United as Michael Carrick emerges as new candidate

Simon Jordan believes West Ham shouldn’t look replace David Moyes with Michael Carrick with just 13 games to go in the Premier League season.

The Hammers were battered 4-0 by Brighton on Saturday (4 March), leaving them just one point above the relegation zone and with Moyes’ position under pressure due to the poor results this season.

Some reports have suggested that Middlesbrough boss and ex-Irons midfielder Carrick could be a contender to take over should Moyes be replaced, but Jordan told talkSPORT (6 March, 12:14pm) he doesn’t advocate for that but does feel Moyes has to turn things around quickly.

West Ham

“I’m in the David Moyes camp,” he said.

“I’m not advocating like some people are that Michael Carrick should be hoisted out of Middlesbrough and chucked in at West Ham because once upon a time he played for them.

“I’m in the camp that David Moyes has got to fix this problem and probably has enough in that dressing room to do so. But this was not the memo that was sent to West Ham fans at the beginning of the season.”

Jim White then asked if there was any point in changing the manager with just 13 games to go in the season, and Jordan shared that he felt wasn’t.

“I would think not (any point in making a change now) unless there is an utter disillusioned dressing room that’s not responding to David Moyes anymore.

“We don’t know that. What I saw against Nottingham Forest was a very good West Ham. Declan Rice scoring a very good goal. Declan Rice being everything he hasn’t been in recent games which is influencing the game.”

West Ham

Half right

Jordan is half right about this one the way we see it.

Carrick has been mightily impressive at Middlesbrough since joining them earlier this season and he’s really turned their fortunes around. However it’s his first management job and he’s not had to face any sort of adversity yet.

Coming back to West Ham at this stage of the season with us in the position we’re in would be jumping in at the deep end without a floatation device, and there are absolutely no guarantees that he would even be nearly capable of saving us.

But, Moyes absolutely has to go. From January 2022 to January 2023 West Ham managed just 28 points in the Premier League and had that been over the course of a season then we would definitely have been relegated.

The players have stopped responding to his demands and instructions, and he is constantly making incorrect decisions with team selection and game management.

Something has to change or the results won’t, and if the results don’t change then Championship football next year is a very real possibility.
