Simon Jordan claims Tammy Abraham would snub West Ham transfer
Simon Jordan believes Tammy Abraham’s reported £40million price tag is too expensive, but doesn’t back West Ham to land him this summer.
The 23-year-old has been on the fringes of the Chelsea side since Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as manager in January, but his six Premier League goals this season still haven’t been beaten by any of his teammates.
According to the Telegraph the Blues are keen to offload the striker for £40million, with West Ham in the running for his signature.
But speaking on talkSPORT [11:00, 29/04/21] former Crystal Palace owner and chairman Jordan thinks both are unlikely.
“You’ve got two considerations in there,” he said.
“You’ve got a Covid-19 landscape, and what is value in this market place and where are people going to go.
“At £40million does he represent a market price given the landscape of football finances, and who and where would he go to from a player’s aspiration side of things.
“I think £40million is probably a little bit ‘toppy’ as a straight nailed-on payment.
“I think if you start buying him at £25-30million and get £10million worth of add-ons, based upon goals and performances which he’ll get, then I think you get to £40million by Tammy landing at X,Y, Z club.”
He added: “I don’t think he’ll go to West Ham in the summer.
“I think he’ll have different aspirations.”
Why not?
Jordan is pretty adamant Abraham won’t end up in East London, and he even mooted Barcelona as a potential destination.
But what would stop the six-cap England international from starting next season in Claret and Blue colours?
Abraham is clearly unhappy at his lack of minutes at Chelsea so he’ll surely be looking to make a move that will ensure he is the number one player in his position.
Would he really get that guarantee at an elite European side like Barcelona? That’s pretty doubtful.
Furthermore, the Blues would surely be reticent to let him go to one of their traditional rivals, either in Europe or Premier League.
While we’re battling our London rivals for a top-four spot this season they won’t be regarding us as a threat in the short or medium term, so we could be at the front of the queue for his signature.
He wouldn’t have to uproot from the capital, while there’s a good chance we could offer him European football next season.
Abraham would be the perfect striker to displace the injury-prone Michail Antonio, and the Irons should go all out for him this summer.
In other West Ham news, Irons receive big boost as £125k/week target could have contract terminated early.
