Sam Matterface slams West Ham United as ‘atrocious’ Julen Lopetegui claim made
Sam Matterface has berated Julen Lopetegui for failing to find a system for West Ham United to beat Chelsea in the 3-0 loss.
The Spaniard is under pressure early into his Hammers tenure as the loss on the weekend marks the third defeat in five Premier League matches.
Matterface discussed the performance on Premier League All Access podcast [22 September], with Nicolas Jackson opening the scoring for the visitors after three minutes, and slammed Lopetegui for his tactical setup in the defeat.
He said: “Chelsea really barely got out of first gear before they were one-nil up. West Ham United were absolutely atrocious I thought in the way that they set up.
“I thought Julen Lopetegui would of come up with a better system to thwart the way that Chelsea wanted to play but he didn’t.”
Julen Lopetegui in the firing line at West Ham United
West Ham have looked dreadful under Lopetegui and, while his side has faced tough opposition in the form of Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea, there is no denying that the performances leave a lot to be desired from the new boss.
Wherever you look, everyone is saying the same thing about Lopetegui. His tactics are unsuited for the type of football the West Ham supporters craved after the departure of David Moyes which, while paired with his decision-making, means is proving to be a lacklustre appointment.
After an incredible summer transfer window overseen by Tim Steidten, the Irons entered the new season with their sights set on a European finish in the Premier League but, if the early season performances are any indication, those aspirations need to be put on the backburner.

The Hammers boss showed some form of ruthlessness finally dropping Michail Antonio after four matches without a return but there are still question marks about what the strongest lineup is in East London.
At the moment, the players seem to be staking their claim to be dropped by Lopetegui not starting, and his time at the London Stadium could prove to be short-lived if he doesn’t start getting results fast.
