Ruud van Nistelrooy faces sack after what happened at West Ham v Leicester

Ruud van Nistelrooy may face the sack after West Ham United beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Premier League.

The London Stadium hosted Leicester on Thursday (27 February) as The Hammers cruised past the visitors who looked bereft of confidence.

Graham Potter beat Van Nistelrooy’s team comfortably as Tomas Soucek found the back of the net in the 21st minute before Jannik Vestergaard scored an own goal.

The Dutch manager hasn’t had the effect the Foxes hoped after sacking Steve Cooper, and defeat against the Irons could potentially lead to another change at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester to sack Van Nistelrooy after West Ham defeat

Leicester could sack Van Nistelrooy after losing to the East London club, Alex Crook says.

The talkSPORT journalist believes the Dutch manager may pay the ultimate cost as the Foxes have lost 11 out of their last 12 Premier League matches.

Crook expressed sympathy for the former Manchester United caretaker manager as the East Midlands outfit didn’t back him in the winter transfer window.

The journalist wrote on X (27 February): “Van Nistelrooy may well pay the price for dismal Leicester run with his job, but he inherited a poor squad and wasn’t backed in January.

“Reason they and Southampton are so inept at Premier League level comes down to poor decisions at board level going back long before this season.”

London Stadium deals final blow to Van Nistelrooy

Van Nistelrooy started his tenure by beating West Ham in his first league game in charge of Leicester.

The Foxes won 3-1 in the reverse fixture as Julen Lopetegui failed at the King Power Stadium on 3 December 2024.

While the Spanish manager survived that loss, David Sullivan eventually sacked him, leading to the appointment of Potter.

The former Chelsea and Brighton boss started slow at the London Stadium but has found his feet in recent matches.

While the Hammers arguably could do a lot better, the positive results of late have renewed hope among the fanbase.

The Irons climbed to 15th in the Premier League table after getting the three points against the Foxes and should kick on from here.

Considering Leicester’s poor run of form, it would have been disastrous for the East London club not to win at home.

Whether the loss at London Stadium will deal Van Nistelrooy the final blow at the East Midlands outfit remains to be seen.
