Ruben Amorim says two words to Portuguese media after West Ham United talks

Ruben Amorim has given a two-word message to the Portuguese press as he was spotted arriving back in Lisbon after West Ham United talks.

In the early morning of 23 April, the Sporting Lisbon manager arrived back in his homeland and was met by members of the press.

Reports from David Ornstein on X (22 April) suggested that the Hammers had made Amorim their top managerial target to replace David Moyes and held talks in London.

Portuguese outlet, A Bola has reported from Lisbon Airport and shared a video of the manager who said: “Until Saturday.”

His Sporting side travel to face Porto on Sunday (28 April) and Amorim has pointed reporters to his press conference the day before.

How would Ruben Amorim set up West Ham United?

The Sporting boss uses a 3-4-3 formation in most of his games but he has opted for a two-striker set-up on occasion.

Amorim wants his side to have the better share of possession with his centre-backs having the honus to start attacking moves.

He lines up with offensive-minded defenders who are complemented by defensive midfielders who can plug gaps in the back line.

These players also need to be comfortable on the ball and look up the pitch for the forwards or failing that, the flying wing backs.

At Sporting, the central centre-back steps forward with the right and left spreading wide to allow the full-backs to play higher. Their role is then filled by the defensive midfield options.

He also demands that his wingers and strikers chase down opposition defenders to win the ball as high up the pitch as possible.

There are plenty of players at the London Stadium who would fit into this system well and take to it with ease. This would certainly match the exciting football that Hammers fans are after.
