Roshane Thomas: West Ham United 'open talks' with Jesse Lingard with offer yet to be made
West Ham United have opened talks with Jesse Lingard over a potential return to the London Stadium this summer, according to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas.
However, talks with the former Manchester United man are still at an early stage and an offer has yet to be made with Lingard’s United contract expiring at the end of June.
The 29-year-old has endured a torrid season at Manchester United in the 2021/22 season and could be set to return to the Hammers after his stellar loan spell in 2020/21.
Won’t come cheap
A move for the soon-to-be free agent will not come cheap for the Hammers and David Moyes with the forward’s wages likely to take up a large part of the wage budget.
Lingard coming back to West Ham seems like a move that is potentially just to please fans rather than to actually improve the Irons squad.
He has hardly played any football this season and looks to be well through the prime of his career.
Surely Moyes would be better off utilising his budget in a more wise manner?
Lingard could well replicate his stellar spell at the London Stadium, but it feels as if this is a short-term signing, rather than smart long-term thinking.
Nevertheless, Hammers fans will certainly be excited to see the attacking midfielder come back to the London Stadium.
His loan spell in the 2020/21 season has certainly lived long in the memory of the London Stadium faithful.
Let’s just hope the Hammers aren’t paying him too much.
