Roberto Mancini shares what he told Gianluca Scamacca on West Ham United move

Roberto Mancini has warned Gianluca Scamacca that he should “prepare to suffer” at West Ham.

The Hammers signed the Italy striker in the summer transfer window from Sassuolo, and Mancini, who previously won the Premier League title with Manchester City, has warned him that settling down in the Premier League won’t be easy.

The Italy national team boss, however, added that, if he settles down quickly, then he will become a top player in the future.

“[I told him that] The Premier is the best tournament, and to prepare to suffer because the first months will be very hard,” said Mancini to Gazzetta dello Sport (10 August, page 2) when asked what he told Scamacca on West Ham move.

“Settling in will not be easy. But if he resists and succeeds, then he will become another player.”

Big hopes

The 23-year-old is one of the brightest young strikers in Italy, and the club hope that he will turn out to be a huge success.

Mancini is absolutely spot on here. The Premier League is the best league in the world, and it will be really tough for any foreign player to light up the stage immediately.

Players from foreign leagues often take time to settle down, as we have seen with Nikola Vlasic.

Scamacca played 33 minutes against Manchester City in the opening day defeat, and he already looked a solid player.

He will add tremendous depth and quality to the side, and if he settles down quickly, the Hammers can really dream of challenging for the top four this season.

West Ham still need to do a lot of business before the end of the window. They need to add a centre-back, a left-back, and a central midfielder to their ranks.

We all hope that Scamacca will settle down quickly and become a top-quality Premier League striker.
