Robbie Savage tells West Ham United to hand David Moyes new contract

Robbie Savage has told West Ham to hand David Moyes a new contract despite the club’s 6-0 loss to Arsenal at the weekend.

The Hammers were thumped by the Gunners on Sunday at home, with thousands of fans leaving the stadium before half-time and the remainder booing the team off the pitch.

Speculation has now grown that talk over a new contract has stalled as a result, with Moyes’ deal due to expire in the summer, but Savage told Planet Sport (13 February) that he has done an “unbelievable” job at the London Stadium and deserves a new contract.

“Look at Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton, everyone loves him and the reason I mention him is because West Ham are actually above Brighton in the table,” he said. “I think West Ham have to stick with Moyes, he’s done unbelievably well.

“I’d give him a new contract. They’re into the knockout stages of the Europa League and they’re eighth in the Premier League despite having some massive injuries. They’re above the likes of Chelsea and everyone talks about how well De Zerbi has done, but Moyes is above him in the league.

“They won a European trophy under him only last season and they’re still in Europe again this year – he’s done an unbelievable job! If you don’t like somebody at work, but they’re doing a great job, you don’t just get rid of them because you’re not too keen on them.”

West Ham fans aren’t fickle about David Moyes

Lots of pundits have reacted to Hammers fans wanting Moyes to be sacked or not be given a new contract, and that’s led to them jumping to conclusions.

West Ham fans don’t want Moyes to be sacked solely off the back of a 6-0 loss to Arsenal, but because of an accumulation of things that they have seen coming for months.

The style of football is awful to watch, and while he has effective ways of playing games that get results and keep the team in a good position but he has already taken the team as far as he can.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

The Europa Conference League win was an amazing time for the club, but it was also the perfect time for him to move on and for someone else to come in and try to get the club to continue that success with more attractive football.

Moyes had a good run but it’s clearly time for something new at West Ham and the Arsenal result just proved it.
