Rob Green wowed by second-half moment in West Ham draw vs Bournemouth – ‘There’s no way’

West Ham played out a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, with Rob Green blown away by Rayan’s moment of quality in the second half.

The Hammers went into the weekend having won three of their last five matches in the Premier League, reigniting their push for Premier League survival.

The draw at the London Stadium has cut the gap to Nottingham Forest to two points, though Vitor Pereira’s side carry a game in hand against Liverpool.

Both Nuno Espirito Santo and Andoni Iraola’s sides had their chances, with the match being end-to-end for large periods.

BBC pundit Green, though, was amazed by one moment in particular from the visitors.

Rob Green amazed by Bournemouth signing Rayan

Joining Bournemouth in January, 19-year-old Brazilian forward Rayan has impressed for the Cherries – scoring twice and providing an assist in 199 minutes of football before the West Ham clash.

He would prove lively for Iraola’s side once again, as he rattled the post from distance after a sensational drive up the pitch.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live, former Hammers goalkeeper Green said: “Wow. Off the post and just wide.

“You’re looking and thinking there’s no way Rayan can gather the ball there and drive as far as he did.”

The Rio-born forward made his move to the south coast just last month, joining from Brazilian outfit Vasco de Gama.

Why a draw isn’t the worst result for West Ham

While a win could have cut the gap to Forest entirely, positives can be taken with the fact that the Garibaldi host reigning champions Liverpool on Sunday – leaving relatively slim chances of the gap being extended to five this weekend.

The Hammers have already played against their rivals twice this term, so they are having to rely on the results of the East Midlands outfit when it comes to their survival battle.

The Hammers face Liverpool themselves next week, but given their uptick in form in 2026 and Nuno’s recent record at Anfield, a result is far from off the table.

However, supporters will have to hope that the old adage of ‘new manager bounce’ does not apply to Nottingham Forest and Vitor Pereira.
