Rio Ferdinand calls for West Ham United boss David Moyes to win Manager of the Year award
Rio Ferdinand has called for West Ham boss David Moyes to be crowned as Manager of the Year for what he has done this season.
The Hammers currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League and are in the Europa League semi-finals currently under the Scottish boss.
Ferdinand, who was speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, believes that if Moyes was foreign he’d be in with a shout for the Manchester United job for his performances this season and he deserves to win the manager of the year award.
“If David Moyes had a bit of a Spanish or Portuguese twang to his name, he would be probably be getting the Man United job based on what he’s done this season,” he said. “That’s a fact.
“He’d have been in with a shout. He’d have been in the mixer. It’s mad. You know what I like about what David Moyes has done? The journey he’s been on.
“There’s been ups at Everton, obviously the downs after he left Man United and a few knocks he had in that time. The character he’s had to come back and build a team with that character within this squad.

“What he’s done there in terms of, listen West Ham left Upton Park and it did not feel like a home the new stadium, the Olympic Stadium. This season man, you go there now and that place is absolutely rocking. He has been the main part, along with that team, to get it like that.
“The fact that he’s done that, he’s created an environment there where people are saying ‘this feels like West Ham’s home now’, just for that alone. To do that is huge.
“He deserves it [Manager of the year]. Based on that and what he’s done in the league, and what he’s done with the team in Europe.”
About time
It’s about time the Hammers weren’t ignored and that Moyesie got some credit for the incredible job he is doing at this football club.
The team were excellent in the first two thirds of the season and have had to deal with several injuries to key players, while juggling the Europa League schedule too.
In Europe they’ve been a credit to themselves and the league, playing an entertaining brand of football while ensuring that they’re hard to beat at all times.
He’s helped players develop into top tier talents like Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen, and you won’t find an Irons fan who doesn’t believe Moyes is the perfect man for the job.
While Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been excellent this season, and Eddie Howe has done a great job at Newcastle, pound for pound there’s no argument against Moyes winning the award.
