Richard Keys stunned by ‘scandalous’ West Ham story he has just read online

West Ham’s season has not gone as planned, with the Hammers currently facing relegation.

Nuno Espirito Santo took over from Graham Potter earlier in the season, but he has been unable to correct course so far.

There is plenty of football still to play, and the Portuguese manager has been getting results over the last few weeks, with things starting to look up.

West Ham have won three of their last four Premier League games, keeping them within touching distance of their relegation rivals.

However, from the outside looking in, the issues at E20 are plain to see, with Martin Keown still tipping West Ham to go down.

Richard Keys questions West Ham’s hierarchy

West Ham’s board has come under intense scrutiny over the last year or so.

Supporters have been protesting against David Sullivan, as far too many mistakes have been made at the club.

It has left the Hammers in danger of dropping to the Championship, just years after that special night in Prague when they won the Conference League.

The ineptitude of the board is on full display following news that they are still supposedly paying the salaries of both Julen Lopetegui and Potter, causing Richard Keys to react.

Keys, writing on his blog, said, “And did I read this story correctly? West Ham are currently paying salaries to three managers?

“Lopetegui until his deal ends in June 2026, Graham Potter until June 2027, and of course, Nuno. The cost is reported to be £10.5m/year. Scandalous. Remind me – who is in charge of football affairs at West Ham?”

Three managers being on the payroll show that the mistakes have been brazen, and now the consequences of those errors could come to the fore this season.

Relegation would cause an exodus at West Ham

If the Irons are to go down, you would almost certainly expect a huge overhaul in the playing squad.

Players such as Jarrod Bowen are unlikely to stick around in the Championship, with the 29-year-old still likely to want to make future England squads.

The chances of being selected while in the second tier are virtually nil, with just six players achieving that feat since 2000, with three of them being goalkeepers.

Hopefully, over the next few weeks, Nuno can begin to acquire more results, and the prospect of relegation begins to fade away, but the Hammers currently have it all to do.
