Richard Keys has Moyes in hysterics over comment made about time in charge at West Ham United
David Moyes could only laugh after what Richard Keys said about VAR in West Ham United’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
Speaking with Moyes and Andy Gray on beIN Sports 1 (21 September, 1:26pm), Keys took a humorous slant on the situation after Hammers winger Crysencio Summerville was denied a first-half penalty.
Summerville had the beating of Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana before being pulled down by his arm in the box, but neither the referee nor VAR chose to give the penalty, and the Irons remained 2-0 down.
Reviewing the incident, Moyes and Gray both burst out laughing after Keys said: “One thing that hasn’t changed since you left, David, is that West Ham still don’t get VAR.”
West Ham left wondering what might have been against Chelsea
Although the Hammers were deservedly 2-0 down (and could have been much further adrift) by the time Summerville was denied what looked to be a clear penalty, things could have panned out very differently.
Mohammed Kudus had already seen a goal ruled out for offside just minutes before Summerville was taken to ground, and making it 2-1 just before half-time may have changed the complexion of the match.

However, given just how off the pace Lopetegui’s side were for most of the afternoon, Chelsea making it 3-0 just seconds after half-time, it’s worth questioning how Moyes would have handled the game.
The Scot himself mentioned his good record when facing Chelsea at home, and with Lopetegui showing few signs of improvement despite being given a new-look squad, fans will hark back to Moyes’ tenure.
Moyes, after all, is the Irons’ most successful manager of the Premier League era, and had he been given over £130million to spend this summer, who knows where West Ham might be.
In other West Ham news, Jason Cundy couldn’t believe what he was seeing from Julian Lopetegui at the London Stadium.
