Richard Keys can’t help but have another West Ham dig after Nuno Espirito Santo appointment

West Ham United have announced the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Graham Potter was finally sacked by West Ham after eight months in charge, after being under pressure for months going back to the end of last season.

West Ham’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace was the final straw for the Hammers board, despite letting Potter take pre-match media duties ahead of the game with Everton on Monday.

Nuno will now take charge of the game against Everton, after becoming the third Hammers boss in the space of the last 13 months.

While discussing the appointment, Richard Keys has taken another swipe at the Hammers.

Richard Keys reiterates West Ham mistake to let David Moyes go

The clash with Everton sees a reunion with former boss David Moyes, who enjoyed a hugely successful spell at the London Stadium.

Moyes achieved back-to-back European finishes with the Hammers in 2021 and 2022, and went on to win the Europa Conference League in 2023.

Many pundits have criticised West Ham‘s decision to let the Scot go, and Keys has been one of the loudest disapprovers of Moyes’ departure.

Keys took another swipe at West Ham for the decision when talking about Nuno’s appointment, claiming that West Ham are not moving on from Moyes with how bad they’ve been in recent months.

Speaking live on beIN SPORTS on Saturday, Keys said: “Of all the games they could have played, it’s at David Moyes’ Everton.

“Three top-10 finishes for Moyes at West Ham. West Ham thought they were going to move on…”

David Moyes decision was still correct

The Moyes departure has been a constant stick which pundits have used to beat West Ham fans with, using the Hammers’ on-field performances as justification.

If you look at the situation with context, it was the right decision to part ways with the former Manchester United boss, as his time at the London Stadium was clearly up in the last few months of his reign.

The problem lies with the Hammers’ actions since letting him go, as both the appointments of Julen Lopetegui and Potter have been unequivocal disasters.

However, the appointment of Nuno is a good one, and with time the former Wolves man will be able to stamp his authority in East London and get the Hammers ticking again.
