Reportedly in-demand West Ham starlet commits future to Hammers

Kai Corbett has committed his future to West Ham amid ongoing speculation over whether to not he could leave the Hammers.

The teenage midfielder has been linked with an exit in recent times, with The Athletic reporting that he had undergone a trial with Bristol City in January.

Reliable club source ExWHUemployee even went as far as to suggest that Corbett had left the club on a permanent basis after he scored for Manchester United’s U18s during a trial match recently.

But the player himself has sought to clarify his situation.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, he said: “I have had a very positive meeting with West Ham, so I am delighted to say that I have chosen to stay with the club I have spent six years at.

“My goal is to play at the highest level of professional football so I am sure people will understand that it is important to me that I am given opportunities to progress.

“Although most don’t know I actually chose not to go and look a number of other Premier League clubs as I felt on reflection that West Ham United will help me develop my game and give me the chance to push and grow towards first-team football.

“I am looking forward to progressing with West Ham Utd and I will work hard and perform well to earn my opportunities to keep climbing closer to my goal of playing in the Premier League”

Is this good news for West Ham?

Of course it is.

Corbett looks like a real talent, and if you can keep a player like that at the club, it is always a preferable situation to do so.

It’s true that he is still only 17, and he will have a long way to go before he can properly stake a claim for a first team spot, but the fact that he has chosen to stay with West Ham is a fantastic reflection of the club’s ambitions in terms of them bringing through young talent.

It’s understandable that there has been so much confusion over where Corbett stands, given the fact that there have been numerous reports of him looking for opportunities elsewhere, but there is no better source than the player himself, and hopefully this will clear things up once and for all.
