Report: West Ham tracking Premier League midfielder

West Ham United completed the signing of central midfielder Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague on Wednesday, finally shoring up that area of the pitch.

The club had been far too reliant on Declan Rice and Mark Noble for a long time now, so it was good to see them improve the middle of the park.

However, they may still be looking to do more deals in central midfield before the end of the January transfer window.

Indeed, The Sun reported on Wednesday that the Hammers are considering making a £10million move Norwich City stalwart Kenny McLean.

West Ham

The east London outfit have been watching the Scotland international for the past few months, and were considering a swoop for him at the end of the season.

However, they may now be looking to make an offer this week after being hugely impressed by the 28-year-old’s adaption to the Premier League.

Manager David Moyes wants to continue adding to his options in the final days of the window, with two more signings potentially in the pipeline.

Could McLean help out West Ham this season?

He certainly could, yes. He’s a quality player who has made the step up to the top flight very well. However, you wonder if he’s the sort of signing who’s going to ensure the Hammers aren’t in another relegation battle next season?

The Irons should be looking for a higher calibre of player than McLean, in all honesty. They could use some top quality alongside Rice.

Hopefully Soucek could be that, of course, but another body would be terrific. But is McLean the right man? Perhaps not.

In other West Ham news, the club have reportedly put in a number of offers for right backs ahead of deadline day.
