Report: West Ham to snub January move for James Tarkowski

West Ham United will not be making another attempt to sign Burnley defender James Tarkowski in January, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Irons launched numerous bids for the England international over the summer, but didn’t meet the Clarets’ demands.

West Ham are flying high so far this season, quite the opposite of Burnley who are currently sitting in the relegation zone.

Claret and Hugh suggest that with the Irons having a £25million obligation on Said Benrahma all but puts the Tarkowski pursuit in the past.

David Moyes regarded the defender a top target, but he has yet to return after seeing a top bid of £35million rejected.

West Ham are still currently strapped for cash as it stands, and have other priorities in the transfer window if anything.

A new striker is at the top of the list, to add more competition for Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.

Why would the Irons target Tarkowski?

Moyes has appeared to have found the perfect formula in defence, with his new back-five thriving in the Premier League.

Aaron Cresswell, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna have been superb, and have kept numerous clean-sheets in recent weeks.

With Issa Diop in reserve ready to come in, Moyes has more than enough strength in depth to deal with any potential blows.

Tarkowski has a WhoScored average match rating of 6.78, but only earned a 5.4 in the 5-0 thrashing against Manchester City.

Moyes has more than enough options available to him, and we would rather utilise the academy if necessary than spend nearly £40million.
